Carol is a 66 year old Grandma who is raising her four grand kids whose ages range from 12-18 on a mere $700/month. Their living quarters are meager and they have to double up on rooms and the couch to have a place to sleep at night.

Carol has been living with cancer and arthritis, and just last year she was also diagnosed with a brain tumor. She has a heart of gold and only asks for food when she has no where else to turn.

Christmas of 2011 we gave Brittany and Tyler bicycles that Bill purchased at a pawn shop and my son did the tune-ups on them. The kids were thrilled. Now Tyler uses his bike for transportation to and from his part-time job he works to help his Grandma and sibblings survive.

Brenden Foster of Bothell, Washington was just 11 years old when he was diagnosed with leukemia and passed in Dec. 2009. “I was coming back from one of my clinic appointments and I saw this big thing of homeless people and then I thought I should just get them something,” Foster said. Instead of asking for an expensive toy or a fancy vacation, he decided to focus all his remaining energy on feeding the homeless. “Follow your dreams, don’t let anything stop you,” Foster said.

Emerald City Lights has been carrying on his wish yearly, giving out sandwiches to the homeless. We continue to feed the homeless in Seattle 3-4 times a year. Read more about Brenden Foster.

Emerald City Lights Bike Ride, a 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable and educational organization based in Seattle, is dedicated to providing to those in need. Our goal is to support activities, organizations and programs that work to provide nutrition and general humanitarian aid.

This year Pat is riding across the nation to shed light on hunger in the United States and to raise $50,000 to feed needy families healthy and nutritious meals every day of the year.Follow her adventure on her travel blog:

http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog/feedtheneed/1/tpod.html

Register to be a Team Phantom Rider or donate to be a Phantom Feeder and ride from home sharing Patricia’s dream. For $55 you will receive a t-shirt, wrist band and Certificate of completion. Each $55 raised will feed a family of 5 for 4 days. So lets register today so we can reach out to more families each week of this New Year 2012. The hunger in Washington has increased 36% over last year. Please, come ride with Patricia on her Dream. All proceeds will go to the cause of fighting hunger here in Puget Sound areas.
